John D. Hipes

John HipesJohn Hipes was born in Muncie, Indiana in 1959.  John received his BA Cum Laude from Wake Forest University in 1981 and his JD Magna Cum Laude from Georgia State College of Law in 1988, where he served as Senior Editor for the Georgia State University Law Review.  He authored Abusive Litigation in Georgia, Georgia State Univ. L. Rev., Vol. 3, 1987.  John began his law practice in 1988 with Smith, Gambrell & Russell in Atlanta, Georgia.  He also practiced with Morris, Manning & Martin and later with Hipes & Norton, P.C. from 1996 to 2004.  In 2004, John joined Bach, Dewberry & Hipes, LLC. 

John practices primarily in the area of commercial litigation, including matters such as insurance coverage and interpretation, construction, real estate, landlord/tenant, employment, partnership and shareholder, and tort and injury litigation.  He has successfully resolved and tried numerous first-party insurance coverage lawsuits on behalf of policyholders, including issues involving bad faith, unfair claims practices, fraud, arson, theft, cancellation procedures, and coverage interpretation generally.

John is admitted to practice in all Georgia courts, including State and Superior, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Georgia Supreme Court.  He is also admitted in the United States District Court, Northern District of Georgia and the United States Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit.

John is President of the Rotary Club of Alpharetta, a past Rotarian of the Year, and has participated in numerous humanitarian trips to Central America.  He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, serves on the Board of Directors for the North Fulton Bar Association, has served on the Board of Directors for the Ed Isakson Alpharetta YMCA, and is a member of the Leadership North Fulton class of 2000.  John is a member of the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church and resides in Milton, Georgia.
